If you own an online business or have a business web site, did you know it’s easy to find out who's Googling you or your site in real-time.

Google has a powerful tool called Google Alerts and it’s free.

Google indexes billions upon billions of new content every day. Don’t spend time digging through online news outlets or Blogs. Have the news come to you as it happens.
You can create unlimited Google Alerts designed specifically toward your information needs to:

* Monitor a developing news story
* Keep current on a competitor or industry
* Get the latest on a celebrity or event
* Keep tabs on your favorite sports teams
* Follow new real estate listings for your area

I use Google Alerts to stay ahead of the search engine news curb.

I recently read the following in a search engine trade journal: “A 26-year-old PhD student from the University of New South Wales has patented a new way of exploring the web that could revolutionize existing search engines. Developed by Ori Allon, the Orion© search engine is designed to compliment searches conducted on services such as Google, Yahoo or MSN Search".

Since this impacts any Visionefx search engine optimization work I perform for my web clients, I need to know when anything related to “Orion" is posted in the search engines.

I went to my Google Alerts and asked to be alerted by email whenever anything new is posted for Orion. In less than two hours I received a Google Alert with four major stories and links about Orion as follows:

Google Hires Orion Search Engine Creator Gets Extraction ...
Search Engine Watch - USA
Back in September, SEW Forums moderator Edel "Orion" Garcia posted a thread about a new search technology under development.

Q-Phrase on Google's Orion: "Kiss Snippets Goodbye?"
Search Engine Lowdown - USA
Yesterday I said that the reason I've been so obsessed with this Orion purchase is that Google "may be deliberately integrating 4th-place (in usage)

Wow, pretty cool tool. Think of the possibilities. You can set alerts for your name, stock quotes, web sites, news items, and unique information.

To set up your own Google Alert, first sign-up for a free Gmail account.
Once you activate your free account go to http://www.google.com/alerts.
Enter the topics or phrases you wish to monitor and watch the world wide web deliver it to your doorstep.
